“You are not alone” campaign to support children orphaned by COVID-19
A social campaign entitled “You are not alone” has been launched by local and international non-governmental organisations to support Vietnamese children who have been orphaned by COVID-19.
The programme will not only provide financial support but also take care of children’s mental well-being.
The programme aims to call for donations to provide urgent as well as long-term support for children who have lost their parents or caregivers due to the pandemic.
The organisers include the Saigon Children’s Charity (Saigonchildren), the Management and Sustainable Development Institute (MSD) and the Capacity Building and Support Centre for Women and Children (CSWC).
It is estimated that 1,517 school-aged children in Ho Chi Minh City alone have been orphaned by COVID-19 in the past few months. The figure would be higher if other provinces and cities are counted.
In addition to the support of the authorities, the participation of NGOs specialising in supporting children is highly necessary to ensure resources are distributed in a transparent and effective manner.
“You are not alone” will not only provide financial support but also take care of children’s psychological and emotional well-being.
With varied experience and expertise in social work, the participating organisations are expected to help children overcome their traumas, give them counselling for life and education, and support their personal development.
