Dantri/Dtinews transfers readers' donations to help a poor family in the central province of Ha Tinh cover medical treatment for their hearing-impaired baby.

The couple Vo Quoc Hen and Bui Thi Mai, both 32, in Can Loc District’s Thuan Thien Commune suffer from congenital deafness. They gave birth to their son Vo Minh Khang in 2020.

Their son was also diagnosed with a hearing impairment at four months old. He could also face delayed speech.

Doctors said that the cochlear implant could help the boy to be able to hear and speak, but his family couldn’t afford the VND600,000 million (USD26,087) cost for the implant.

Hen and his wife are seasonal workers with modest incomes.

According to doctors, the best time for the cochlear implant is between eight months and one year, but financial difficulties have prevented the couple from taking their 14-month-old son to hospital.

After their story was published on Dantri/Dtinews, many readers have sent money to help the family cover the treatment.

Dantri/Dtinews on December 28 visited and transferred VND 293,320,409 which readers donated during the first two weeks of December to the family.

The boy's grandfather, Vo Quoc Thinh said that his family were strongly moved by such generous support for his small grandson.

"We’ve also received over VND 30 million from donors sent to our bank accounts," he said. "I want to express our deep thanks to all the kind donors for their great help for my grandson. We are going to take him to the hospital next week to prepare for the transplant."
