"We're here today to share the happiness with the students and teachers of the school on completion of this project," he said. "They now have a new, better dormitory. I want to send my sincere thanks to the donors who supported us in this project."

Toan said this was the second dormitory project built for students in Nghe An, after the first opening earlier this month in Tuong Duong District. He added that the newspaper had so far carried out 26 bridge projects and 44 other construction projects at schools nationwide. And Nghe An was one of the largest beneficiaries of Dantri-supported projects.

Attending the event, the chairman of Binh Chuan Commune People's Committee, Pham Xuan Manh, sent his thanks to Dantri Newspaper and kind donors for their valuable support to the province.

"Binh Chuan is a poor remote mountainous commune lying some 40 kilometres from the centre of Con Cuong District," he said. "We're mostly from the Thai ethnic group who live on farming, with over 30 percent of households living in poverty. We're very happy to receive support from kind donors and Dantri Newspaper with this meaningful project."

Binh Chuan Primary School has three branches with a total of 402 students who live around 10 kilometres from the school. The school will merge two branches in Tong and Que villages now the dormitory is completed.

The dormitory cost VND800 million (USD34,482). The construction was made possible thanks to a VND150 million donation by Nghe An Province Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, VND 100 million from a young woman who received VND1 billion from Dantri readers to cover her hospital fees in Hanoi, and VND100 million from a young man who also received VND 1 billion from Dantri readers after his poor condition was shared by the newspaper.
