The two boys had never been to school due to their family's financial difficulties. Y Khang used to collect scrap metal to earn money to buy food for the family while the younger brother took care of their ill mother at home. Local authorities, relatives, and neighbours had helped build a small house for them and sometimes gave them food. However, the support was limited as the locality where they live is also poor.

After their mother died, local authorities helped send them to school. The two brothers are now attending first grade at Ha Huy Tap Primary School. Meanwhile, their father often wanders around begging for food and rarely returns home. The boys mainly depend on relatives and neighbours for daily food.

The two boys have been sent to school

Representatives from Dantri and local authorities in Tam Thang Commune, Cu Jut District visited Y Khang and Y Tuan and transferred over VND900 million to them on May 19.

According to Mai Thi Ngoc Hien, Y Khang and Y Tuan's teacher at Ha Huy Tap Primary School, the two boys have also received a lot of support and donations from individuals and organisations in and outside Vietnam after their story was published.

"Besides sending them many presents like clothes, books, bicycles, and other necessities, donors have also sent over VND 2 billion so far to support the two brothers," the teacher said. "Local authorities have helped open a savings account for them."

Vice chairman of Tam Thang Commune People's Committee, Nguyen Sy Anh, said that they were finding a guardian for the two children and will co-operate with the guardian and teachers to take care of them.

"We're very moved when seeing them receive so much love and support from the community," the official said. "We want to send our sincere thanks to Dantri Newspaper and kind donors for your valuable help for them."
