Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, 38, weighs just approximately 40 kilos. But she is the family's breadwinner of a big family after her husband died of cancer some months ago.

Huong has five children with her eldest daughter aged 21 having mental problems, while her youngest son is just three years old. She also has to take care of a four-year-old grandson who was born after her mentally-ill daughter was raped. The poor woman also has to support an elderly mother who was paralysed after a stroke.

The eight-member family is now living in a small house which lies in a remote area near a rubber plantation in EaBar Commune, Song Hinh District.

Huong said that she has tried to do every work she can to support the family.

"I am usually hired to work in the rubber plantation for weeding or collecting latex for other people and earn around VND200,000 per day," she said. "But it's just seasonal work. I would do some other odd jobs to earn money but it's not stable."

The poor woman said that many times she runs out of money and cannot buy food or medicine for her children. She has also been unable to repay a debt of VND25 million and the creditor has threatened to take her house.

"My biggest wish now is to be able to repay my debt and buy three bikes for my children," Huong said. "My three children now have to walk six kilometres to school."

Talking to Dantri/Dtinews, vice chairman of EaBar Commune People's Committee, Le Mo Y Bong, said that Huong's family was the most difficult case in the area.

"The local authorities have always paid special attention to the family but they need more support to overcome their financial difficulties," the official said. "I hope that they will receive more help from kind donors."
