The Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hoang Tuan Anh held talks with the head of the Chinese State General Administration of Sports (SGAS), Liu Peng in Hanoi on April 20.
Based on the cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the SGAS signed on July 19, 2010 in Beijing, the two sides agreed to support each other to organise major regional sports events in the future, such as the 18th Asian Games (ASIAD 18) in Hanoi in 2019.
China is willing to help train Vietnamese athletes and officials, cooperate with Vietnam in sporting events that are China’s strength and share experiences and information in sports medicine as well as grant scholarships to Vietnamese students.
China is committed to send experts and coaches to help Vietnam improve their results at regional and international competitions and create favourable conditions for Vietnamese teams to work with its leading athletes at its major sports centres.
Vietnam and China also agreed to organise an annual Guangzou-Hanoi bike race and plan to develop it into a China-ASEAN bike race.
Currently, many Chinese coaches, experts and athletes are working on some Vietnamese teams and vice versa some Vietnamese chess players are competing on Chinese teams. In addition, 300 Vietnamese sport students are studying in China.
