Vietnam’s first 3D trompe l'oei or trick-on-the-eye exhibition was recently held by Kim Se Hyuk and his actress wife Ngoc Trinh.

This popular art form is already well known internationally, but Vietnam only recently witnessed the first big exhibition of the style. Artists use meticulous tricks of perspective to cheat viewers into viewing a three dimensional object on a flat surface.

Kim Se Hyuk said, “I decided to open this exhibition because whenever I walk around in Vietnam, I see children avidly reading picture books, yet Ho Chi Minh City lacks entertainment areas for them.”

His idea received strong support from his wife. Ngoc Trinh said during her visits to South Korea that she had seen a strong development in 3D art, “I think that this art should be promoted in Vietnam,” she added.

The exhibition covers 1,000 square metres and features 56 pictures or more appropriately ‘scenes’. “We’re encouraging visitors to come and take photos and have fun. Besides Ho Chi Minh City, we’ve received invitations to open the exhibition in Nha Trang and Hanoi. This is an ideal opportunity to promote this style of art in Vietnam,” Trinh said.
