Rachmaninov night in Hanoi

Symphonies for piano by world-famous composer Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninov will be performed by Guigla Katsarava with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Vietnamese conductor Le Phi Phi at Hanoi Opera House at 8 p.m. on August 17 and 18.

The programme will feature the Piano Concerto No.2 C minor Op.18 and Symphonic Dance Op.45.

Le was born in a musical family in Hanoi before graduating in piano and orchestra and conducting in the Hanoi Conservatory of Music in 1986.

He continued his study at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music (Moscow) in the class of professor L. Nikolaev and during that time participated in several master classes with G. Rozhestvensky, D. Kitaenko (Russia), H. Riling (Germany), P. Freeman (USA) and International Competitions for Conductors like Prokofiev (Russia) and Besanson (France).

He also performed widely across Europe but in 1995 Le returned to his homeland to perform and coordinate closely with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, the Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra, and HCMC Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera.

Tickets are priced at VND200,000, VND350,000 and VND500,000 and available at the Opera House, 1 Trang Tien Street.
