Fewer awards for Vietnam at int’l piano competition
Vietnam picked up both 1st and 2nd category A awards at the closure of the second International Piano Competition in Hanoi on September 11, while key category B and C awards went to foreign contestants.
Phan Bach Thien An won first place in category A
Commencing on September 4, the event attracted 52 contestants from nine countries and territories, with competitors divided into three categories: A (10-13 years old), B (14-17 years old) and C (18-25 years old).The jury consists of well-known teachers and artists from musically-acclaimed countries, such as France, the US, Poland, the Republic of Macedonia, the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Japan. Vietnamese pianist Dang Thai Son currently serves as the honourable president and art director of the competition.
In category A, Vietnamese pianist Phan Bach Thien An won first place, with second place going to Nguyen The Vinh (Vietnam) and Huang Rung-Jiuan (Taiwan, China).
The two entrants from the RoK, Chon Sae Yoon and Kim Hye Jun, achieved first and second places in category B, respectively.
Similarly, Japanese pianists Jitsukawa Asuka and Nakamura Fuyuko, were awarded the top two awards in category C.
The talents of the Vietnamese contingent were also well recognised with many sub-prizes. In category A, Bui Y Lan won the most-promising award, while Nguyen The Vinh was selected for best-performance of classical works, and Nguyen Bao Khuong obtained the award for youngest contestant entering the final round.
Ngo Phuong Vy attained the most-promising award and Do Hoang Linh Chi received an award for best Vietnamese contestant in category B.
In category C, Hoang Ho Thu achieved third place and the award for best Vietnamese contestant. She was also selected of best-performance of romantic works. Ngo Tuan Anh rounded up the category with an award for most-promising talent.
The awards ceremony will take place at the Hanoi Opera House on September 12.
