Female GM to compete in Russian world chess

Hoang Thanh Trang, formerly of Vietnam, will compete in the Women's World Chess Championships 2012 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, from November 9 to December 3.

She will join 27 other European women in this year's event, which is expected to attract 64 players.

She is seeded No.22 and will meet Russian Evgenija Ovod in her first match.

Trang is a Hungarian Grand Master who was born in Hanoi and moved to Budapest with her family at the age of 10.

Her victories include the 1998 World Girls Junior (U20) Championship, the 2005 European Chess Club Championship and the 2011 European Women's Rapid Championship.

Vietnam has no representatives at the tournament after failing at the regional qualifying rounds.
