Singer My Tam has become the first and only Vietnamese artist to receive the Best Asian Artist title at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) 2012.
The award ceremony was held in Hong Kong on November 30.

My Tam could not attend the award ceremony in person because of her Vietnam Idol 2012 responsibilities.

In a video message shown at the event, Tam said it was her great honour to be awarded such wonderful spiritual gift this year. She hoped Vietnam will soon host a MAMA ceremony where she can perform for foreign audiences.

Other artists who also claimed MAMA awards include Japan’s AKB48, the Philippines’ Sarah Geronimo, Thailand’s Nathew, and China’s Leehom Wang and Chris Lee.

The Best Solo Dance Performance and the Best Music Video awards were presented to Psy, who also received the International Favourite Artist award for  his history-making hit Gangnam Style.

Best Male Group went to Big Bang and its group leader, G-dragon, was also named Best Male Artist.

MAMA, which was first held in 1999, is one of the Republic of Korea’s (RoK) three most prestigious music awards. It attracts many Asian celebrities.

Singer My Tam is scheduled to arrive in the RoK to perform at the Busan Culture Festival. The event is part of a series of activities marking the 20th anniversary of  Vietnamese-RoK diplomatic ties.
