HCM City boat racing competition attracts tens of thousands
Tens of thousands travelled from all over the country to HCM City to see the first traditional boat racing contest along the Tau Hu – Ben Nghe canal.

The festival, held on the afternoon of December 30, attracted the participation of 19 teams from across Vietnam, and even some from other countries.
Duong Quang Ha, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Chairman of the HCM City Fatherland Front, said this is the first time such a festival had been organised along the canal.
The event was meant to raise environmental awareness and make the canal an inviting tourist attraction, Ha said.
The women from Kien Giang Province won first prize for women competition, and the teams from Dong Thap, Can Tho and Hau Giang Provinces were awarded the second, third and fourth prizes, respectively. Meanwhile, Binh Thuan team won the first prize for men's competition.
