Localities celebrate Buddha’s birthday

Many practical activities have been held in many localities across the country to mark the 2,577th birthday of Lord Buddha which falls on the 15th day of the fourth lunar month.
The Buddhist Executive Board of the southern province of Hau Giang has launched a wide range of charitable activities to help poor and disadvantaged people and students in difficult circumstances.

Chairman of the Hau Giang provincial People’s Committee Tran Cong Chanh and local leaders congratulated nuns and monks from Bao Tinh pagoda and praised their contributions to the province’s development.

The southcentral province of Ninh Thuan in collaboration with the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) on May 22 visited outstanding Buddhist clergy and followers who made positive contributions to the development of the province and the city.

The Vietnam Buddhist Shangha (VSB) Executive Board in the central city of Danang donated gifts to local poor people and families of social policy beneficiaries while the city’s Vietnam Fatherland Front sent a letter of congratulation to local Buddhist followers calling on them to continue to preserve and uphold the traditional values of the nation Buddhism.

Pagodas in Ho Chi Minh City this week have lit seven lotus-shaped lanterns to celebrate the anniversary of Buddha's birth.

The lanterns, which have 24 petals arranged in three layers, will be kept lighting on the Nhieu Loc canal until May 25.

The event will be highlighted by an exhibition featuring Buddhism culture at the Pho Quang Pagoda in Tan Binh district. The exhibition will close on May 24.

Talks about the life of Buddha have also been organised at pagodas where many followers are taking part in incense offerings.

In addition, 32 flower-decorated floats joined in a parade on the city's main downtown streets on May 22.

Also, five boats decorated with flowers by pagodas and Buddhist followers sailed in a parade on the Sai Gon River.
