Renowned Vietnamese designer Minh Hanh met with representatives from the Italian-based Gattinoni fashion company in Rome on February 24, discussing the possibility of cooperation between the two countries.

Addressing the event, Vietnam Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Hoang Long noted Vietnam is one of the world’s largest textile exporters, however, the proportion of “gray matter” and innovations in garment exports remain low.

Representatives of the Italian company pledged to support Vietnam in developing human resources, aiming to enhance its garment quality.

The Vietnamese Embassy has cooperated with a number of Italian designers to organize Vietnam fashion shows in a number of Italian cities and held meetings with various Italian fashion designers associations to exchange experiences and strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to organize a Vietnam fashion show in Rome this September and later a Rome fashion show in Vietnam in December.

Through the fashion shows the two countries hope to increase cooperation between young Vietnamese and Italian fashion designers.

Gattinoni Chairman Stefano Dominella said that although Italy’s fashion industry is one of the most developed in the world, the country’s young stylists still want to learn and share experiences with the fashion sector of other country, including Vietnam, especially in handmade design.

He also expressed his hope that the Italian fashion industry and Gattinoni in particular will find new fashion markets in Asia, including Vietnam.

He affirmed Gattinoni will support and create favorable conditions to help young Vietnamese fashion designers.

In 2013, famous Vietnamese fashion designers Minh Hanh and Hoang Hai held fashion shows featuring traditional Vietnamese dress and evening gowns in the cities of Florence, Turin and Milan.

The performances attracted a huge number of foreigners who expressed great interest in Vietnamese fashion.
