A hat-trick for Anh Vien at SEA Swimming Champs

Top Vietnamese swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien on June 19 won a treasure trove of gold medals at the ongoing Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in Singapore.

In the 100m butterfly, she took top honours clocking in at 1’00s69, defeating Singaporean rivals-Nur Marina and Lim Meagan.

Vien also finished the 50m backstroke with gold, clocking a time of 29s51, breaking her own record set in the SEA Age Group Swimming Championships held in Singapore in 2012 at 29s89.

Similarly in the women’s 400m medley, she recorded a time of 4’49s03, surpassing her old personal best achievement (4’50s27), earning her third gold. 

In the men’s 200m breaststroke, teammates Huynh The Vi and Pham Gia Man came in fourth and fifth, trailing behind Thai athlete Nattupong Ketin, who finished in first place.

Meanwhile, Hoang Quy Phuoc earned a silver medal in the men’s 400m freestyle after clocking a time of 3’57s09, just a whisper off the first place finish of-Singapore’s Danny Yeo Kai Quan at 3’57s06.

Singapore currently leads the tournament with 7 gold, 9 silver and 5 bronze medals. Thailand holds on in second with 5 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals.

Vietnam currently stands in third with five golds, three silvers and one bronze.
