The chairman of the Vietnam Football Federation spoke highly of the U23 national squad coach, Toshiya Miura, after the win against Philippines in an AFF Cup match.

 Coach Toshiya Miura

Le Hung Dung, chairman of VFF said, "Before the AFF Cup started. I talked with the players about various things. I told them that the fans have not turned their back on the team, and they would have to do their best to attract fans to the stadium. Moreover, players must avoid scandals or violence that could ruin the reputation of both players and Vietnamese football."

The victory against the Philippines gave Vietnam a chance to go into the semi-finals. It is also visible that the team has improved greatly and that coach Miura still has some tricks up his sleeve.

Dung said, "We didn't hire a coach with a glowing resume because the team was in need of long-term strategic plan. No matter the results of AFF Cup, we'll employ Miura for at least 3 years. He helped the U23 team get into quarter-finals at the Asian Games. We have trust in him. He is building up a much needed playing style. Even the players' stamina has improved greatly."

He went on to say the the team was lucky to have Miura for a coach. Even though Miura is just getting acquainted with Vietnamese football, he has worked hard to make sure the VFF did not place any undue pressure on the team for the AFF Cup.

After the win against the Philippines, the VFF decided to awarded the team VND1 billion (USD47,600). However, Dung said they would not announce any awards for coming matches.
