Vietnam finishes APG2015 campaign with 48 gold medals
The Vietnamese disability sports contingent staged a successful end to the eighth ASEAN Para Games (APG2015), finishing in fourth place overall with a total of 48 gold, 58 silver and 50 bronze medals, meeting the target of winning 45-50 gold medals set prior to the Games.
Earlier on Tuesday, Vietnamese athletes with disabilities added eight gold medals to the delegation’s tally thanks to Nguyen Hoang Minh (athletics, men’s 1500m - T12), Phung Dinh Tu (athletics, men’s 200m - T45/46), Ngo Xuan Doan (athletics, men’s high jump - F42/44), Nguyen Be Hau (athletics, men’s shot put - F56/57), Nguyen Thi Minh Thu (chess, women's individual rapid - B2/B3), Doan Thu Huyen (chess, women's individual rapid - PI), the women's rapid - B2/B3 team (chess), and Vo Thanh Tung (swimming, men's 50m backstroke - S5 (S4-S5)).
After a week of competition, Vietnam topped the swimming event with 19 gold medals, two more than the runner-up Indonesia. Meanwhile, Vietnam’s powerlifting team also finished in first place winning a total of six gold medals.
As many as 16 records were broken by Vietnamese athletes during the Games, two of which were Asian records in swimming and powerlifting.

Vietnam’s last gold medal was won by Vo Van Tung on December 9 in the men’s shot put - F33/34 with a distance of 7.65 metres, 1.07 metres further than the Malaysian silver medalist Davis Machang.
