About 3,100 athletes will take part in the 5th Asian Beach Games, scheduled to take place from September 29 to October 3 in the central city of Da Nang.

The meeting of heads of sports delegations from participating countries and territories

The information was revealed at a meeting of heads of sports delegations from participating countries and territories on June 1.

Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Khanh Hai said the host country was doing its best to prepare for the games as it is only just over 100 days before the games officially kick off.

According to Hai, who is also head of the organising committee, athletes will compete in 22 disciplines in 172 events.

With the participation of the best athletes, the Beach Games is a high-quality sporting event that honours sportsmanship and strengthens the friendship between countries and territories in the region.

Under the motto ‘Shining Sea, Bright Future’, the organisers hope that the games will add a voice to protecting and promoting the value of the sea in future development, and the prosperity of Asia and the world in general.

The Asian Beach Games were first held in Bali, Indonesia, in 2008. The concept has proved to be a great success thanks to the relatively low costs of staging sports in the sea and on the beach and with temporary infrastructure.
