Hanoi Temple of Literature has been decorated with colourful lights in preparation for a three-day cultural event celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival starting from September 29.

Thousands of lanterns have been hung at the Temple or Literature in Hanoi.

Thu Vong Nguyet event is hoped to become Hanoi's hallmark and promote Vietnamese culture to the world. The event aims to combine both the past and present, old and new, traditional and modern activities.

Dragon dances, mandarin chess and lantern making will be held daily during the festival. Hundreds of artisans will also join the children to cut and shape the fruits for the mooncake tray.

Documents and memoirs provided by historians about the old Mid-Autumn Festival will be available. Visitors will be able to enjoy a play and the ao dai fashion show by well-known designers including Anh Thu, Ha Linh Thu and Duc Hung.

The first day will be a nostalgic night dedicated to families, the second day will be for young people with traditional and modern activities and the final night will lead visitors back to their childhoods.

The event will be held from 5 pm to 10 pm from September 29 to October 1. Nearly 500 artists across the country will participate in the event.
