Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Hoang Vinh Bao, Hanoi's Vice Chairman cum Chairman of Vietnam Publishing Houses Association Ngo Van Quy and representatives of various publishing houses in Vietnam attended the opening ceremony.

"The book fair this year will mark Hanoi’s 64th Liberation Day on October 10. This is a cultural and exchange place for publishers in Vietnam and overseas," said Ngo Van Quy.

He went on to say that Vietnam had worked hard to improve its abilities to participate in the 4th industrial revolution. In order to improve the publishing industry, publishers must apply new technology including digital books.

Visitors will be introduced to the technology as well as various paper books and digital books. New Vietnamese apps and e-readers will also be introduced at the fair including the BIBOX devices. One of the highlights of the fair is the book domino event on October 6 in which 3,000 books will be arranged on a 200-square-metre area.

Exchanges, book launches and talk shows will be held during the five-day fair. Publishers are also offering major discounts.

Over two dozen publishers and organisations from Vietnam, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, the US and many ASEAN countries will hold discussions about copyright infringement and solutions.

The Hanoi Book Fair 2018 presents free admission from October 3 to 7.
