Ha Giang to organise Buckwheat Flower Festival

The Ha Giang Buckwheat Flower Festival this year will open on November 23.

Nguyen Hong Hai, director of Ha Giang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said there would be a variety of activities held at the 2018 festival including Dong Van Plateau photo exhibition, mint honey showcase and flower street in Dong Van District.

A night market, traditional singing and food courses will be held in Meo Vac District where tourists can experience the daily lives of the H'Mong ethnic group. There will also be a bird singing contest and Ma Pi Leng mountain climbing contest.

A tourism ambassador for Ha Giang will be selected to promote Ha Giang's landscapes and cultures. Other districts including Quan Ba and Yen Minh will also hold many activities to attract tourists this festival. This is a chance where celebrities, experts and locals to exchange opinions on how to preserve the traditional cultures of ethnic minorities groups.

Tran Duc Quy, vice chairman of Ha Giang People's Committee, said the buckwheat flower festival had greatly improved after it was first held in 2015. The festival has boosted local tourism and the economy in general. Moreover, the promotion will help Dong Van Karst Plateau continue to be recognised as a UNESCO World Geopark.

The festival will last until the end of December.
