Hundreds of sketch paintings displayed at Hanoi university

An exhibition covering up to 250 sketch paintings by People’s Artist Ngo Manh Lan is being held at Vietnam University of Fine Arts.

They are the works he created over the past 70 years, featuring his family life, Vietnamese soldiers as well as the time he studied in Russia.

Ngo Manh Lan, former director of the Vietnam Animation Studio, attended a class for artists during the Resistance War 1950-1954 taught by late artist To Ngoc Van.

After graduation, he came to battles to have materials for his works, including the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. The event helped him to have many valuable works.

He also has works related to farmers’ lives in different areas across the country. During the time he studied in Russia, he also drew many pictures.

The sketches are varied and depict stories of different historical periods, indicating his great experiences over the past decades.

Artists Le Thiet Cuong and Mai Long highly appreciated Lan’s works, saying that they have significantly contributed to the Vietnamese arts sector.

The exhibition entitled Time opened on November 2 will last until November 10.

People’s Artist Ngo Manh Lan, 84, was born in Hanoi’s Thanh Tri District. He has won many domestic and international prizes for animation.
