Female football team prize money nears USD1m for SEA Games gold medal

The victorious Vietnam women’s football team have received VND22 billion (USD956,521) for winning the gold medal at the recent SEA Games 30.

On Monday, a ceremony to grant the bonuses for the squad was held at the Vietnam Football Federation in Hanoi.

The bonuses from agencies and organisations to the squad has climbed up to VND22 billion in cash.

Pham Thanh Hung, head of women's football department of the VFF, announced to use VND1 billion of the total bonus to donate a charity fund of Vietnam Station for support poor children’s heart surgery.

At the event, coach of the team Mai Duc Chung said that he will try his best to train the team to win more achievements, including Olympic Tokyo 2020.

“We always make efforts in matches for the patriotism as well as showing Vietnamese women’s strength,” Chung added.

On behalf of the team, player Tuyet Dung expressed the great thanks to the agencies for their bonus and their strong support for them.

Vietnam’s female team will head to Jeju, South Korea to play in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Tokyo 2020 Asian qualifying round which will get underway between February 3 and February 9, 2020.

Vietnam are in Group A alongside North Korea, South Korea and Myanmar. Group B consists of Australia, China, Thailand, and Chinese Taipei.

Vietnamese team have risen two places to 32nd in the latest FIFA world rankings, according to the Vietnam Football Federation.
