The result came as little surprise as Hung Dung demonstrated convincing form last season, playing a significant role in Hanoi FC’s path to the AFC Cup 2019 inter-zone final as well as their fifth V.League trophy in history.

In addition, the 27-year-old midfielder joined the Vietnam U22 team to quench Vietnam’s 60-year-old thirst for the SEA Games gold medal in men’s football. Particularly, Hung Dung contributed a goal to Vietnam’s 3-0 victory against Indonesia in the final match, alongside a brace by Doan Van Hau.

The Silver Ball award was presented to another midfielder of Hanoi FC, Nguyen Quang Hai, who won the Golden Ball last year, while Viettel FC’s Nguyen Trong Hoang claimed the Bronze Ball.

In the women’s category, striker Huynh Nhu, captain of the Vietnam women’s team, won the Golden Ball award for the second time. Chuong Thi Kieu (Ho Chi Minh City FC) and Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung (Phong Phu Ha Nam FC) were named the respective winners of the Silver Ball and Bronze Ball awards.

In futsal, the Golden Ball, Silver Ball and Bronze Ball awards went to three players of Thai Son Nam FC, namely Tran Van Vu, Nguyen Minh Tri and Pham Duc Hoa, respectively.

21-year-old Doan Van Hau of Heerenveen SC (Netherlands) and 20-year-old Nguyen Thi Tuyet Ngan of Ho Chi Minh City FC won the ‘Best Young Player’ award for men and women, respectively, while Hanoi FC forward Pape Omar Faye was named the ‘Best Foreign Player’ of the 2019 season.

At the gala night, the respective head coaches of the Vietnam men’s and women’s football teams, Park Hang-seo and Mai Duc Chung, were presented with the Dedication Award in recognition of their contributions to the success of Vietnamese football in 2019. These two talented tacticians helped Vietnam sweep the top honour in both men's and women's football for the first time at the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines.
