Local weightlifter wins bronze at Asian Weightlifting Champs 2021

Vietnamese weightlifter Hoang Thi Duyen secured a bronze medal in the women’s 59kg category on April 19 as she competed in the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2021 which took place in Uzbekistan.




The local girl was successfully able to lift 95kg in her first attempt in the jerk event. She then went on to beat her initial effort by lifting 98kg and 100kg in her second and third attempts.


During the clean event she then succeeded in lifting 112kg and 116kg, although Duyen eventually failed in her attempt to lift 121kg.

The Vietnamese representative won a bronze medal after lifting 216kg in total, thereby earning a place at the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Elsewhere in the competition, Kuo Hsing-Chun of Taiwan (China) won the championship title in the women’s 59kg category after lifting 247kg, including 110kg in the jerk and 137kg in the clean.

The Asian Weightlifting Championships 2021 is organised by the International Weightlifting Federation. This year the competition took place in Uzbekistan with the aim of deciding which athletes qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
