The national football team have returned to Vietnam after securing a spot in the next round of the World Cup Qualifiers 2022.

The Vietnamese football team arrived in Vietnam on June 17. Even though they suffered a 3-2 defeat against the UAE, Vietnam finished on 17 points which was enough to proceed to the next round and are placed among the top five group runners-up.

The team arrived in Danang at 8.45 am and moved to Ho Chi Minh City at 10 am. Since all of the players have been given two shots of the Covid-19 vaccine, the team will only be quarantined for seven days. They will be tested twice at the quarantine centre and tested for Covid-19 again at home.

The players will take a short break before their training for AFC Champions League and V-League with their own clubs and the next round of World Cup Qualifiers.

The 12 teams which will proceed to the third round of World Cup Qualifiers are Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, UAE, Syria, Oman and Lebanon.

They will be pooled in two groups for the third round, which will begin in September. The top two teams from each group will win a spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup while the two third-placed teams will play against each other to represent Asia in the match against the team from the North, Central America and the Caribbean.
