Authorities in Quang Binh Province decided to fine the organiser of a recent charity event VND3.5 million (USD168) for allowing singers to wear skimpy costumes.

Quang Binh Provincial Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism’s decision came as a result of a request by the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism’s Department of Performing Arts.

The organisers of "Night of Beauties", JITA International Advertising Services Co. Ltd, violated Government regulations on art performance.

The company was fined for allowing a number of singers appear on stage with clothes that were "inappropriate to Vietnamese culture and customs" at a charity event that took place on August 14.

Most of the controversy centered around singer Minh Hang, who wore nearly transparent clothes.

The organiser has admitted their fault and agreed to pay the fine.

Many people who reacted to the incident on internet blogs and chat rooms thought that the fine was not enough to act as a deterrent.

Former Model Thuy Hanh, who was the event’s MC, however, said the department had been too strict by fining the organisers of a charity programme. She said a warning would have been more appropriate.
