Hanoi film festival attracts 14 entries

The Vietnam Cinematography Department announced on Thursday the list of 14 films to compete at the second Hanoi International Film Festival (Haniff) to be held from November 25 to 29.

Two Vietnamese films that will compete at the festival include Thien Menh Anh Hung (Blood Letter) and Dam Me (Passion).

Twelve other films at the festival come from foreign countries. They include Talgat (Kazakhstan), Shackled Posas (Philippines), Song of Silence and Sea shadow (United Arab Emirates), Helpless (South Korea), Ranjana - I am coming back (India), Diva (Hong Kong), Telegram (Tajikistan), Hatred (Iran), Nice to meet you (Japan), Night of silence (Turkey) and Existance (New Zealand).

The films were made during the past two years.

According to Ngo Phuong Lan, head of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Cinematography Department, the festival aims to encourage new talent from Vietnam‘s film industry and other countries, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, and support exchanges among global cinematographers.

The festival focuses on the development and unification of the Asia-Pacific film industry.

The first Haniff was held in 2010 on the occasion of the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi, with the participation of 67 films and representatives of prestigious international festivals from Venice, Cannes, Busan, Hong Kong, Berlin and Toronto.
