Model and entertainer Ho Ngoc Ha has hopes of representing Vietnam at the MTV Europe Music Awards' Best World-Wide Act category.

She beat out a number of strong candidates from the Vietnamese entertainment world, receiving the most votes to attend the event.

Ha must now compete in the Southeast Asian round and the Asian round, facing rivals from the region, before moving on to the final MTV awards to be held in Glasgow.

Previously there had been allegations made by the fans of singers Dong Nghi and Son Tung M-TP, two of her main competitors, that Ha has used "tricks" to get more votes.

The reason for the controversy was that the vote was held between 9am and 12am on September 15. But on September 9, the image of Ho Ngoc Ha were already posted on the Facebook page of MTV Thailand, saying that she was to be the Vietnamese representative for the MTV awards.

After public criticism, MTV Vietnam asked for an explanation, and many wondered if Ha had not been pre-selected. The photo were then promptly removed.

MTV Vietnam said that MTV Thailand had just been using outdated information, but many fans remain skeptical, preferring to believe that it was a ploy masterminded by Ha herself.

Last year, singer My Tam brought home the Best Southeast Asia Act for Vietnam.
