The Vietnam National Opera and Ballet (VNBO) in co-ordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet and Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will delight ballet lovers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh with performances of the famous ‘Nutcracker’ along with the musical score provided by the legendary Tchaikovsky.

Accordingly, performances are scheduled to take place at Ho Chi Minh City Opera House on November 27, 28, 29 and at Hanoi Opera House on December 7.

This year’s show will feature two international ballet dancers: Chloe Glemot from France and Michaela Griffin from South Africa who usually perform with renowned ballet troupes in Europe.

The orchestra and choir will be conducted by the talented Marius Stravinsky.

‘The Nutcracker’, first staged in Russia in 1892, is a two-act ballet and was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with the musical score provided by Tchaikovsky.

The ballet has grown in popularity since the mid-20th century and is now performed by countless ballet companies around the world, especially during the Christmas season.

It was adapted from ‘The Nutcracker’ and ‘The Mouse King’, a story by German E.T.A Hoffmann.

The ballet depicts the adventures of a little girl named Clara inside a nutcracker, a gift from her father, in a dream.
