International circle festival kicks off in Hue

The fifth International Circle Festival – 2016 officially kicked off in Hue city, the central province of Thua Thien – Hue on May 28, gathering nearly 70 artists from Vietnam and a number of international delegations.

The participants come from Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Ukraine and Vietnam. Five arts troupes from Vietnam including the Southern Arts Theatre, the Vung Tau Circus – Prestidigitation Troupe, the Vietnam Circus Federation, the Circus and Variety School, and the Hanoi Circus and Variety Arts Theatre.

The International Circus Festival is an important cultural event, introducing cultural identities of various countries through circus arts, said Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien.

The event also offers an opportunity for domestic and foreign artists to show off their skills, enhance their friendship and solidarity and exchange experiences, contributing to developing circus arts in Vietnam, the South East Asian region and the world.

The festival also aims to honour and promote the land, people and cultural identities of Vietnam to international friends.

After the opening ceremony, audiences will enjoy six nights with 11-13 performances per night at Hue city’s Sporting Centre.

The troupes will introduce numerous unique and attractive circus forms of different countries, such as acrobatics of Thailand, jugglery and acrobatics of Malaysian artists and wire-balancing of Vietnamese artists.

The festival, held jointly by the Department of the Performing Arts under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnamese Artists’ Association, the Vietnam Circus Federation and the Thua Thien – Hue provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will last until June 4.
