Sapa celebrates first-ever Snow Festival

The first Snow Festival opened in Sapa town in the northern province of Lao Cai on December 24 as an event to celebrate Christmas Day and New Year 2017.


The opening day of the festival attracts many visitors

A Christmas reindeer sleigh and 10 snow making machines and a replica of are installed in the centre of the town in order to provide visitors with an authentic atmosphere of Christmas.

Booths are arranged along Cau May, Xuan Vien and Thach Son streets, displaying brocade products, traditional costumes of ethnic groups in town, agricultural products, as well as photos on snow falls in Sapa.

Visitors to the two-day festival are invited to play folk games, enjoy traditional songs and dances, and taste signature dishes of local people.

A traditional wedding of Red Dao people will be introduced to visitors on the occasion.

The festival is held to advertise tourism potentials, the cultural beauty, the land and people of Sapa and Lao Cai province in general to tourists at home and abroad.

Sapa district has welcomed around 970,000 tourists since the beginning of this year, including approximately 745,000 domestic visitors. The total revenue of the local tourism sector was over VND 1.69 trillion (US$ 74.2 million).
