 >>  Hotels liable for music copyright payments
The Vietnam Centre for Protection of Music Copyright (VCPMC) said they will halt the plan to collect copyright fees for songs on TV programmes broadcasted at hotels in Danang.

The decision was announced after the VCPMC worked with the Copyright Office of Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on May 26.

Bui Nguyen Hung, head of the Copyright Office of Vietnam claimed the plan was in accordance with the law. However, the VCPMC was asked to find a more sensible way of implementing the policy. After having a more detailed plan, they will negotiate to reach the final prices and agreement from hotels owners.

The process must be reported to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Pho Duc Phuong, head of the VCPMC, confirmed that they won't collect fees from TV programmes at hotel rooms. However, the hotels, bars and restaurants must still pay fees for the live and background music.

"The plan to collect fees from TV programmes at hotel rooms is only halted in order to create more detailed content. Other fees must still be collected," he said.
