Italy-Vietnam Fashion Week in Hanoi

18 Vietnamese and Italian designers will participate in the Italy - Vietnam Autumn-Winter Fashion Week as part of activities to mark 45 years of the diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The collections of well-known designers including Minh Hanh, Phuong Thanh, Nhi Hoang, Michele Gaudiomonte and Bianco Levrin, will be on shown at Dien Hong Garden from March 17-19.

The concert opening the fashion week will take place at the Tuoi Tre theatre on March 16 and an exhibition about the silk-making process will open at Casa Itala at 18 Le Phung Hieu Street.

Italian ambassador in Vietnam Cecilia Piccioni praised Minh Hanh for being the link between the two countries' fashion scenes. Fashion is an important industry that contributes greatly to Italy's GDP and anticipates the event at Casa Italia. Hanh will be given an Italian honour at the opening concert on March 16.

"This is a special event. First, it marks 45 years of diplomatic ties with Italy and second, the silk from both Italy and Vietnam is the main material of this fashion week," Minh Hanh said. "The designers hope that local fashion scene will develop from traditional values. Artisans that can make the world-quality silk also join the event."

Quang Tu, director of the show, said, "Every style and designs will follow the theme of sustainability. The shows will be held from 4 pm, March 17 to 19, when the natural light will make the stage more romantic."

Italy is one of the world's top fashionable countries and Vietnam is building its own talented designers. Fashion has quickly become a key collaboration between two countries. Artisans from Van Phuc village in Hanoi, Nha Xa Village in Ha Nam Province and Bao Loc District in Lam Dong Province will also show their weaving skills during the week.
