Can Tho set for Southern Traditional Cake Festival
Hundreds of different types of cakes will be on display at the Southern Traditional Cake Festival from April 25 to 29 in the Mekong Delta’s Can Tho city.
With the theme “Origin of Homeland Cakes” and organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the city’s People’s Committee, the festival aims to provide an opportunity for cuisine artisans to show their talent and introduce traditional cuisine from the south and other regions to both domestic and foreign visitors. It is also a good chance for cuisine enterprises and associations to meet together and introduce their products.
The festival will feature more than 200 booths, including 100 dedicated to offering a buffet of traditional cakes from the southern region, such as banh xeo (pancakes stuffed with pork, shrimp and bean sprouts), banh u (small glutinous pyramid-shaped cakes), and banh bo dua (coconut-flavored sponge cake), among others. The remaining booths will display specialties from elsewhere around Vietnam, including Hanoi, Yen Bai, Cao Bang, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Bac Lieu, An Giang, Hau Giang, Vinh Long, Soc Trang, and Kien Giang, as well as countries such as France (bread and baguettes), Japan (sushi), Indonesia (coffee cake), Malaysia (caramel cake), Italy (cream cake), Thailand (pastries), and South Korea (rice cakes and pastries).
Activities include traditional cake-making contests, a cake-making corner, the reappearance of the “Southern Traditional Cake Road”, floating markets, singing contests of songs about cuisine and cakes, a conference on traditional cake preservation and packaging technology. and an entertainment space for kids.
With free entry, the festival is being held at the Can Tho Promotion Agency, 108A Le Loi Street, Cai Khe ward, Ninh Kieu district.
The festival attracted more than 500,000 people last year and the organizers hope that this year will grab the attention of even more visitors.
