Exhibition recalls Hanoi’s Liberation Day

A happy and joyful Hanoi in the liberation day 64 years ago is being shown at an exhibition titled Hanoi – The Return Day", held at the Hoa Lo Prison.


The exhibition recalls the historical context, the devastation of wartime, liberation day and the process of rebuilding Hanoi after the war.



When the resistance Government took over the capital from the French soldiers in October 1954, 422 administration officers and 158 police officers were sent to reclaim 35 major agencies and public buildings including Tonkin Palace, the present-day Government Guest House, the Hoa Lo Prison, and Bach Mai Hospital.


A French solider met Vietnamese soldiers back to Hanoi on October 8, 1954.



After the horn was sounded at Hanoi Opera House, the national anthem was played by the military band.

Vietnamese soldiers walking along Long Bien Bridge to the city's centre to take over the capital.



The Vietnamese government reclaimed the French Police Headquarters in Hang Trong Street.



French officers instructed Vietnamese counterparts to reclaim the House of Finance, now the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 9,1954.
