Photos, documents on French architecture in HCMC on exhibit
Some 300 photos and documents on the construction and design of French-style buildings in Ho Chi Minh City are being exhibited in the city until November 24 along the Nguyen Hue pedestrian mall in District 1, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the French Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen emphasized that the aim of the exhibition is to introduce to the public precious documents, maps and images preserved in Vietnam and France on the construction of old Saigon from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
It is a highlight in cultural and historical activities for local people as well as international tourists and contributes to expanding the relationship between Vietnam and the France.
Mr. Vincent Floreani, French Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, said he appreciated the cultural and historical value of the exhibition, which introduces the cultural diversity of Saigon - a valuable asset that needs to be preserved and promoted for following generations.

The exhibition marks the 320th anniversary of Saigon-Cho Lon-Gia Dinh-Ho Chi Minh City (1698-2018) and the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and France. It is also to welcome French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe on his three-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
