Thirteen circus troupes from nine countries will take part in the Hanoi International Circus Festival 2019 from October 15 to 20 at Hanoi Central Circus, 67-69 Le Dai Hanh Street. The Vietnam Stage Artists’ Association in cooperation with the Vietnam Circus Federation and the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports hold the festival each year.

In addition to unique and entertaining circus performances is a parade around the Hoan Kiem Lake pedestrian mall on Saturday, October 19 between 9am and 11pm.

The festival will feature circus acts from Australia, Cambodia, China, Cuba, Egypt, Hungary, Laos, and Singapore. The host Vietnam has five troupes, from the Vietnam Circus Federation, the Phuong Nam Art Theater, the Vietnam Circus Arts and Intermediate School, the Vung Tau Circus and Magic Troupe, and the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association.

Performances at the festival are all creative, unique, and newly-staged and are yet to win awards at any circus festival in Vietnam. Repertoires include acrobatics, juggling, tightrope walking, magic, and clown shows, with each performance lasting from seven to 12 minutes.

The Organizing Committee did not limit the number of performers in the Vietnamese troupes but decided international troupes would have just six, in addition to requiring their performance represent the cultural identity of their country.

The festival is hoped to act as a platform for local performers to introduce Vietnamese circus troupes to the world and for managers to exchange and share experience with international counterparts, which will lead to innovations in organizing, managing, and creating high-standard performances that thrill audiences.
