Jurors announced for Vietnam Film Festival

The names of the jurors for the 21st Vietnam Film Festival which will take place from November 23 to 27 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province have been revealed.


The Happiness of a Mother screened on the opening night

The opening night for the Film Week, one of the series of activities started prior to the festival was held on November 6 at the National Cinema Centre in Hanoi. The Happiness of a Mother directed by Pham Huynh Dong was screened on the opening night. The film is a tale about a poor and ill single mother who worked hard to help her autistic son follow his dream.

Do Quoc Viet, deputy head of the Cinema Department, said, "The festival is a special event aims to promote Vietnamese cultures."

30 films will be screened for free in Hanoi and HCM City during the film week. A total of 16 feature films, 38 documentaries and 20 animated films will participate in the festival.

The judge panel for feature films includes Tran Luan Kim, former general secretary of the Vietnam Cinema Association, reporter Huu Viet, director Le Thanh Son, musician Trong Dai, writer Hoang Nhuan Cam, director Bui Tuan Dung, painter Nguyen Trung Phan, cinematographer Nguyen Nam and actress Truong Ngoc Anh.

The judge panel for the documentary category is director Le Hong Chuong, reporter Tran Viet Van, reporter Dinh Trong Tuan, director Vu Hoai Nam, writer Nguyen Thu Dung, director To Hoang, and director Nguyen Tuong Phuong.

The judges for animated films are director Nguyen Thi Phuong Hoa, musician Pham Ngoc Khoi, Nguyen Quang Trung, reporter Chu Thu Hang and painter Do Lenh Hung Tu.

The festival is expected to promote the local film industry and honour the artists who had made great contributions in the past years.
