Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat, deputy chairwoman of Vietnam Cinema Association has decided to resign from being a member of the Central Film Censorship because of the work pressure.

Ngat, who was former deputy head of Vietnam Cinema Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, has submitted the resignation letter to the ministry.

Ngat recently stopped working at the council before receiving Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien’s approval. The council currently has only 10 members.

Ngat, who worked at the council since the 2000s, complained that the council has to censor more films and have to classify films for different ages.

Some 200-300 foreign and 40 local films are appraised every year.

Earlier, the movie Abominable, marketed in Vietnam as Everest – The Little Yeti, was pulled from local cinemas for including a scene featuring a map with China’s so-called U-shaped Line in the East Sea. Following this, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism dismissed Nguyen Thi Thu Ha from her post as acting director of the Cinema Department.

At present, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong has been assigned to be head of the Cinema Department.
