Liem ranks second, earns Super Grandmaster title

Le Quang Liem finished second at the Capablanca Memorial 2011 after losing to Vassily Ivanchuk of Ukraine in the last round early May 22.

Liem had a one point advantage over Ivanchuk after nine rounds and only needed a draw to leave the 46 year-old tournament with a bang but one mistake cost him the crown.

Despite his second place finish, Liem jumped from 49th to 34th place in the world ranking to become the first Vietnamese granted the International Super Grandmaster title which is given to athletes who earn an Elo rating of at least 2,700. Liem\'s current Elo is 2,700.3.

The Ho Chi Minh City-born grandmaster is the fourth person in Asia and the 40th in the world to receive the title.
