In London yesterday he narrowly won the first game 24-22 before losing the second 17-21. The third set seesawed first one way and then the other before Minh won it 22-20 to go through.

The match lasted a grueling 81 minutes, leaving both men very tired.

This is the second time that Minh has beaten Kashyap, the world No 28, after a 2-0 victory at the US Open last month.

He next takes on world No 10 Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand who crushed Choong Hann Wong of Malaysia 21-13 21-18.

In the opening round, Minh had beaten Israeli Misha Zilberman 21-10 21-14.

Most title favorites have eased into the third round. Titleholder Chen Jin, three times World Champion Lin Dan, European ace Peter Gade, and top seeded Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia also scored comfortable wins.

Guatemalan giant-killer Kevin Cordon, 24, who had upset fifth-seeded Chen Long of China on day one, grabbed the limelight again with a 21-19 21-17 victory over Sweden\'s Henri Hurskainen.
