Tien Minh ousted from Malaysia Open
  • | VietnamNet | January 13, 2012 10:21 PM

Vietnam’s top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh was defeated 0-2 by Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat (world 9th player) on the afternoon of January 12.

The failure is not a big surprise for Tien Minh because in the last four games against Taufik Hidayat, Tien Minh was defeated three times.

However, the 0-2 score (11-21, 14-21) in 41 minutes is unacceptable for Tien Minh, the world’s 8th player.

Tan Minh started the game excitedly. He attacked strongly and scored first. However, when Minh had five points, the Indonesian rival rose up and went straight to the finish with 21-11 in the first set.

In the second set, Tien Minh’s physical strength went down and he could not keep up with his rival. The set closed at 14-21. Vietnam’s top badminton player accepted 0-2 failure.

After his early failure at the Southeast Asian Games 2011 and then the tournament in South Korea in early 2012, Tien Minh’s performance has not recovered yet since he had to leave the Malaysian Open in the second round.

This year, Tien Minh will compete at many international tournaments. If he cannot improve his performance, it will be difficult for him to defend his position in the world top ten.
