A gold medalist loses Olympics berth

Vietnam’s top female sprinter Truong Thanh Hang has failed to get a berth for 2012 Olympics in London. 

At the Asian Grand Prix Athletics in Thailand Hang finished first in the 800m running event with a time of 2’02’’16 a little slower than the Olympic B standard (2’01’’3) to win the gold medal.

The Asian Grand Prix Athletics is a playground for top Asian athletes which were selected by the Asian Athletic Association (AAA), among whom seven Vietnamese athletes included Vu Thi Huong (women’s 100m), Truong Thanh Hang (women’s 800m) Duong Thi Viet Anh (women’s high jump), Nguyen Thi Thuy (women’s 400m), Do Thi Thao (women’s 800m) Duong Van Thai (men’s 800m) and Nguyen Van Hung (men’s triple jump).
