Local gymnast clinches gold at international tourney

Pham Phuoc Hung has won a gold medal in the men’s parallel bars event of the Challengers Cup 2012 International Gymnastics Tournament in Belgium.

Hung was awarded the champion title with 15.925 points after defeating strong rivals from the Netherlands and China in the finals on June 10.

He is currently training hard for the upcoming Summer Olympics in London.

In the women’s vault event, Nguyen Ha Thanh grabbed a bronze medal, missing the chance to clinch a silver or gold, which were both bagged by Chinese and Chilean gymnasts.

Challengers Cup 2012 had attracted 174 athletes from 39 countries, who competed for ten sets of medals for both men and women.

Vietnam’s seven-member team included five male and two female gymnasts.
