FIFA rankings: Vietnam tops SEA

Despite competing unsuccessfully in AFF Suzuki Cup 2012, Vietnam continues to take the leading position in the Southeast Asian region, announced the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).

Accordingly, with 34 points added to get a total of 251 points, Vietnam has moved seven notches up to 131st position in the world’s rankings.

Entering the final round of AFF Suzuki Cup 2012, Thailand has got an additional 56 points to jump 16 notches compared to November. Thailand is placed 136th, five notches behind Vietnam.

AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 has been held since mid-November to help teams in the region improve their status in FIFA December rankings.

While the Philippines and Myanmar have dropped 4-6 notches, Singapore and Indonesia have climbed 9 notches up to 154th and 156th positions.

Laos has moved 6 notches up to 171st and Malaysia 5 notches up to 158th positions in the world’s rankings.

Italy has gained one notch up to take 4th position, and Portugal has dropped three notches to 7th.

Colombia has made an impressive climb to 5th position. The top three include Spain, Germany and Argentina.
