Taekwondo artists to compete in World Poomsae Championships

As many as 29 martial artists will represent Vietnam at the 9th WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, scheduled to take place in Aguascalientes, Mexico from October 30 to November 2.

The four-day event features hundreds of competitors from across the world in 36 disciplines – 16 individual, eight team, four mixed doubles and eight creative poomsae events – for both men and women in different age groups ranging between U14 and over 65.

The Vietnamese delegation, led by President of the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation, Truong Ngoc De, will vie for medals in 16 recognised and eight freestyle (creative) poomsae events.

Vietnam ended up in second place at the 2013 competition in Bali, Indonesia, claiming an overall collection of three gold, three silver and five bronze medals, just behind the Republic of Korea – the home of taekwondo.

The gold medals were won by Nguyen Thi Thu Ngan, Chau Tuyet Van and Nguyen Thi Le Kim (women’s U29 team); Nguyen Dinh Toan, Le Hieu Nghia and Nguyen Anh Minh (men’s U29 team); Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, Nguyen Thuy Xuan Linh, Le Thanh Trung and Nguyen Thien Phung (team creative poomsae).

At this year’s tournament, Vietnam will receive the hosting flag for the 10th WTF Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in November 2015.
