The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will review the sale of television rights for the national top-flight V-League football championship at a meeting next month.

VFF Chairman Nguyen Trong Hy said the federation will hold a meeting of its Executive Board to approve the sale in September or October.

“I hope that sale of the V-League TV rights will be completed before the football championship begins next January. I expect that all the Executive Board members will agree on a deal with a long-term partner,” Hy said.

Earlier this week, cable TV provider Audio Vision Global (AVG), a partner of the VFF, offered a 20-year deal for V-League TV rights. However, the federation remained cautious about the proposal as it wanted to maintain a balance between earnings and broadcasting services to large audiences and.

According to VFF Secretary General Tran Quoc Tuan, the organization has yet to receive any bid from local television stations for the V-League TV rights.

Under the television rights agreement between the VFF and Vietnam Television (VTV) signed in 2004, VTV paid US$1,590 per match to broadcast V-League, First Division, and some National Cup games, but this sum had hardly increased in the six years since the deal was agreed.

Under the deal, the VFF and its sponsors take 50 percent of the fees, while the two participating teams share the remainder. The host team take 35 percent and the visiting team 15 percent.

The VFF will also consider TV rights for the national and Olympic teams.

Last year, the VFF signed a partnership agreement for 2010-2016 with MP and Silva, a leading international sports media company, to manage and exclusively distribute VFF event media rights involving the Vietnamese senior and Olympic teams.
