Viên clocked a time of 2:11.28 in the qualifying round and was the last of the eight swimmers who entered the finals. The best result in the qualifying round went to five-time world champion Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, with a time of 2:07.27.

Earlier, Viên, who hails from the southern Cần Thơ Province, failed in the women’s 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle.

The World Cup is a series of events held across nine cities in Europe and Asia, including Paris, Berlin, Moscow, Beijing, Dubai, Doha, Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

This is the second time Viên is taking part in the World Cup. Last year, she competed in two stages. In the 2015 World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, Russia, Viên won a silver in the women’s 400m medley (with a time of 4:40.79) and a bronze medal in the 200m medley (with a time of 2:12.33). In the tournament held in Paris, she won a bronze medal in the 400m medley and ranked fourth in the 200m medley.
