Tien Minh into Yonex US Open quarterfinals

Nguyen Tien Minh powered his way into the quarterfinals of the 2017 Yonex US Open Badminton Championships today (July 21) after a 77-minute thriller against Abian of Spain.

The match opened as a very see-saw affair at the Anaheim California Convention Centre Arena. Both players played neck and neck. The first set went to Abian 19-21. Minh remained strong and came back to win the remaining two sets 21-19, 21-11.

Minh will face Jeon Hyeok Jin of the Republic of Korea in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese Do Tuan Duc and Pham Hung Nam also entered the quarterfinals after besting Scottish Patrick Machugh and Martin Campbell 22-20, 21-15 in the second round of the men’s doubles.
